Fortress surivival PvP.
I think a lot of reasons why fortress survival is not more popular is because of a few problems. It doesn't allow enough competition in the game as one of the only ways you can compete with other players is produce making this the most hardcore thing in the game. It's not really a game that allows any sort of tournament and you have to play over about an hour each time to win. I am looking to address these issues with an idea I thought of that fortress survival could eventually work toward but know that this is a work in progress and any ideas that could build upon it would be greatly appreciated.

In PvP mode everyone is on their own team and vision is not shared . The only way to gain vision I think would be to get an upgrade like launching a satellite or something that gives you vision of enemies bases but other things could work as well ( maybe make it so that you can ally in game and gain vision if your allied  ) In addition to trying to survive the waves of creatures and bosses each player can now build a new building called a Spellbringer (name can changed as it's not important) that starts out at the first tier and can be upgraded with lumber.

The spellbringer has a set mana pool, starts off at 0 mana or maybe 50 mana or some low amount  and starts to slowly regenerate mana.  The spellbringer could be used defensively... to try and help yourself survive or offensively to try and do things to eliminate the other survivors/players in the game. At the first tier of spellbringer there are a limited amount of abilities and new abilities would become available as you upgrade it and you could possibly gain mana regeneration. Some abilities I can think off of the top of my head for the spell bringer would be to summon some creatures or marines  to fight for you ( Defensive ) or an an ability that you can cast on an enemy players wall to downgrade it by two tiers or 1 tier ( offensive ) other abilities that come to mind would be some plague ability that you can cast on an enemy players hero that starts to drain a % of their health. But other abilities could be something that stuns their survivor for a short time . Or a golem that you could drop outside their walls ( with a timed life ) that could increase attack speed/movement speed of the mobs around it. Other summons could be something that can also be dropped outside their walls that increases the attack damage of units as well.

I definitely think this would bring a whole new playstyle to fortress survival... People who were ranked 50 for example could play for Win/loss ratio and maybe you could have a way to save Win/loss ratio in your code.  A win being all the other players being eliminated and a loss being you dying while playing this mode. Also people wouldn't have to play an hour every game to win now if they were just playing to try and eliminate the other survivors and get a win. But this sounds great to me and i think it would make fortress survival a lot more competitive and bring out a side of Fs that we haven't seen before. As I said this is something I just thought of so any ideas you have that could contribute to this would be awesome. Thanks

Great Idea  :D  This might be useful for competition of who's the best FS player in the world!  :P

But I had a question from those spellbringer.

Q: How long it will regenerate it's mana to full?

That's a decision that would still have to be made but like I said. The spellbringer would have multiple tiers and the tiers could possibly affect mana regeneration. In addition it would have a base mana capacity depending on tier and would either start at 0 mana or something negligible like 50 and slowly regen but I'm not sure how long it would take or should take.

However if there is a free for all mode what will happen if one person decides to pump everything into their hero and just own everything unless you make it that in FFA you cant have any heroes

a) game is allready FFA

B) towers got 100x better bang for buck than hero tomes.

c) given the above... the defender will always have a huge advantage should another player decide to attack him. an agressor would have to be of significantly superior skill to be successful.

so in conclusion.. this would not wreck gameplay too much.. but also.. it wouldn't add that much to the game.. or am i wrong?

I feel like it could easily add a lot to the game. It would depend on the type of abilities in that are available in the spellbringer. No you wouldn't be able to use heros to destroy each others buildings but you could kill another play easily if you used something make creeps outside stronger and then did some ability to destroy 1 or 2 of their mechanics after waiting for their walls to dip. And if there was an ability where you could destroy any non wall/non lumber mill building you could start to pick of their towers 1 by 1 unless their was something they could do to counter. Or just do a lot of stuff that end up killing them like using something to destroy a repair factory something stun their survivor so their overall produce gets slowed by a lot and they end up dying because of that. There's lots of possibilities

messing up repairs would be pretty mean ..

but repairs are pretty weak .. so ehm.. a player could just nuke repairs with some snipers or sth? that would be mean..

You wouldn't be able to use snipers or be able to kill other peoples buildings. Basically the point is to either Co-exist with other players in the game and use your spellbringers abilities for defensive purposes to survive against the creeps/bosses or if you want to try and kill the other players you would use abilities from the spellbringer once you've gained vision of there base so an example would be.... you use a spell from your spellbringer that kills any nonwall/non lumber building for like 200 mana or something... so if you see that they built a building like a command center in a corner and it's blocked off by another building and they cant get back there to rebuild it you would want to destroy that to make their game difficult. Or like a spell that downgrades their wall by 2 so like going from a dark to a onyx... or dropping something out of range of stuff so they cant kill but it still benefits creeps like something increased their movement speed... or stunning their survivor to slow produce.. destroying repair factories.. a damaging ability to try and kill their hero... There are lots of spells we could think of but there would also have to be ways to counter some of the more damaging abilities. Basically people die because you're harassing them with your spellbringer and their overall produce/defenses are lower so I'm not sure how someone could get a ' kill ' of another player. You would really just get a win for being the last one left in the pack with everyone trying to use their spell bringers for evil lol. It would be nice to see a W/L ratio in a code though for rank 50s

that would be quite a huge strain on the devs to be honest
